The Katie Fund: Our Commitment to Compassionate Care, No Matter the Cost
VETSS has established the Katie McCauley Fund to assist caring and deserving pet owners who are faced with unexpected expenses in caring for pets that have become acutely ill or injured. This fund is used to cover expenses incurred while caring for injured lost or stray animals. We are also the only veterinary hospital in the region to care for wild animals, and partner with the Wildlife Center of Virginia, plus animal control departments in the counties of Albemarle, Madison, Greene, Culpeper, Orange, Louisa, Fluvanna.
The Katie fund allows VETSS doctors to stabilize the pets, assess their injuries or medical situation, and then transfer them to our wonderful SPCA for further care and hopefully, to find their way home. The fund is named in honor of Katie, the beloved pet of Mr. and Mrs. Melvin McCauley. Their generous donation established the fund, and VETSS keeps it up through fundraising. Several VETSS clients and Good Samaritans in our community have also donated. The fund is administered by our attending veterinarians.
The Katie Fund’s value is highlighted in cases like that of Oscar Phoenix, an American pit bull who rose from the ashes of horrific injuries from animal abuse. With the help of Ring Dog Rescue, the Humane Society of the United States, and the Katie fund we were able to save Oscar. He is now a happy, well adjusted member of the community once again!!
Through the Katie Fund, VETSS also offers discounted spays and neuters for several rescue groups in the Charlottesville area. We support the efforts of all the kind people who lend their time, love, and homes to help homeless animals in our region. VETSS has a strong community presence that is working to increase Animal Welfare Awareness in our area.
